My Journey to Finding the Perfect Safety Goggles: A Tale of Dust, Paint, and Fog

Introduction

Hello fellow DIY enthusiasts! If you’ve been following my blog, you might recall the unfortunate incident I had with plaster getting in my eye. That painful experience was a wake-up call, emphasizing the importance of good quality safety goggles for even the most basic jobs.

The Search Begins

As someone who frequently wears a mask, fogging goggles has been a persistent issue for me. So, I turned to Amazon in search of a solution and stumbled upon the BDS Safety Goggles/Glasses, certified under EU EN166:2001 and ANSI Z87.1. They boasted features like impact resistance, anti-scratch, anti-fog, anti-UV, and a universal size.

Initial Impressions

My first few uses were impressive. The goggles didn’t fog up, even when I was working with a drywall sander—an extremely messy task. Even when connected to my Karcher vacuum cleaner, which usually does a great job at dust reduction, these goggles stayed clear.

The Revelation

However, not all that glitters is gold. As I wiped the exterior of the goggles to remove dust, I discovered the reason behind their anti-fog success: three large vents at the top, designed to prevent condensation. These vents, while effective in reducing fog, had no filters, allowing dust to accumulate inside.

The Drawbacks

This design flaw became evident when I was doing overhead work. Dust and debris easily entered through these vents, compromising my safety. The same issue arose when I used them for spray painting ceilings; the paint particles found their way inside the goggles.

Switching Gears

Consequently, I switched to DeWalt goggles. While they excel in keeping dust and paint out, I’m back to square one with the fogging issue.

Conclusion

In the world of DIY and home improvement, safety should always be a priority. My quest for the perfect pair of safety goggles continues, as each brand seems to have its pros and cons. I’d love to hear from you – what safety goggles do you use, and how do they hold up in different conditions?
