The ProDec PRRE010 Value Sheepskin roller is sold as a durable, trade quality natural Merino wool. This wool is the world’s finest grade of sheepskin aiding superb loading, release, durability and washability. Does it stand up to this in real life?
The Value Sheepskin roller was ordered on Amazon prime and therefore came on a next day delivery ready for work. The Medium pile sheepskin roller was of good quality. The roller easily fitted onto the 1.75″ (44mm) cage and was ready for use.
About the sheepskin roller
The sheepskin roller has a 12mm medium pile. This is the most popular pile used with emulsion paints. Medium pile is suitable for smooth and semi-smooth surfaces. The surface types can be plaster, drywall and ceilings (including light to medium textured plasters such as artex) . This roller is suitable for emulsion colour changes. Colour changes can be both similar to the previous one and more substantial such as light to dark or vice-versa . It can also be used on semi-smooth masonry surfaces such as brick. It is ideal for water and solvent/oil-based emulsions (eg. matt, silk, eggshell) and masonry paint with minimal paint spatter.
Merino Wool Pile
Pro Dec uses Merino wool, which is prized in the textile industry for its softness and durability. Not all sheepskin rollers are made of this, so the price tag of this product reflects its quality. The strong fibres resist tearing, making the fabric naturally durable. This enables it to stand up to heavy duty use on masonry and other textured surfaces. As it’s a natural fibre it washes out readily, with the fibres drying back into shape. This roller can be used time and time again and giving the same high quality finish.
Absorption Rates and useage
Absorption rates were good, and had the product been easier to apply this roller would have made a superb job. However despite the instructions of the primer I applied requiring a sheepskin roller, the two were not compatible.
