Welcome back to my blog, dear readers! Today, I’m sharing a bit of a mishap that led me to discover an essential piece of safety gear. If you’ve been following my adventures, you might remember the unfortunate incident where I got plaster in my eye. Ouch! That experience was a real eye-opener (pun intended) about the importance of proper eye protection during DIY projects.

Initially, I tried to remedy the situation by ordering a pair of safety goggles from Amazon. But, alas, that attempt was a flop – the goggles I received were far from satisfactory. Determined not to repeat my mistake, I went on a hunt for the best safety goggles out there, leading me to the DEWALT CONCEALER PREMIUM SAFETY GOGGLES (Model 69051).

Why I Chose DEWALT Concealer Safety Goggles

These aren’t your average safety goggles. The DEWALT Concealer is a dual mold goggle that combines comfort with high-level protection. Let’s dive into the features that make these goggles a standout choice:

Polycarbonate, Wraparound Lens: Offers a 180° field of vision and ensures that your eyes are protected from all angles.

Ventilation Ports and Built-In Ventilation Channel: These features provide breathability, reducing the chances of fogging up.

Anti-Mist and DEWALT XtraClear™ Anti-Fog Lens Coating: Keep your vision clear in different working conditions.

Adjustable Straps: For a fit that’s snug yet comfortable, perfect for long hours of work.

Anti-Scratch Lens and DEWALT ToughCoat™ Hard Coated Lens: Your goggles stay clear and scratch-free.

Grade B Frame Impact Protection: Offers robust protection against debris and accidental impacts.

Optical Class 1 and 99.9% UV Protection: Ensures visual clarity and protects from harmful UV rays.

TPE Frame for Day-Long Comfort: This feature makes it comfortable to wear them for extended periods.

Can Be Worn Over Glasses: A boon for those of us who wear prescription glasses.

Dual-Injected Rubber Seal: Provides a secure fit and keeps out dust and debris.

My Experience with the DEWALT Concealer Goggles

I’ve used these goggles for various projects, and I must say, they’re fantastic. The shading of the lens makes my workroom look bright, enhancing visibility. The foam around the goggles creates a snug fit, ensuring no dust sneaks in. However, I did notice that they tend to steam up when I use them with an FP3 mask, but it’s a minor inconvenience compared to the overall protection they offer.

Specifications at a Glance

Adjustability: Adjustable Straps

Anti-Scratch: Yes

Brand: DeWalt

Standards: EN 166 3.4B

Size: One Size, Unisex

Material: Polycarbonate with TPE Frame

Impact Protection: Grade B Frame

Lens Type: Clear

Warranty: 1 Year

Model: Concealer

Pack Size: 1

Color: Yellow

UV Protection: 99.9%

Final Thoughts

If you’re in the market for reliable, comfortable, and durable safety goggles, the DEWALT Concealer should be at the top of your list. They’ve become a staple in my toolkit, offering peace of mind while I tackle my DIY projects. Remember, safety first!

Introduction

Hello fellow DIY enthusiasts! If you’ve been following my blog, you might recall the unfortunate incident I had with plaster getting in my eye. That painful experience was a wake-up call, emphasizing the importance of good quality safety goggles for even the most basic jobs.

The Search Begins

As someone who frequently wears a mask, fogging goggles has been a persistent issue for me. So, I turned to Amazon in search of a solution and stumbled upon the BDS Safety Goggles/Glasses, certified under EU EN166:2001 and ANSI Z87.1. They boasted features like impact resistance, anti-scratch, anti-fog, anti-UV, and a universal size.

Initial Impressions

My first few uses were impressive. The goggles didn’t fog up, even when I was working with a drywall sander—an extremely messy task. Even when connected to my Karcher vacuum cleaner, which usually does a great job at dust reduction, these goggles stayed clear.

The Revelation

However, not all that glitters is gold. As I wiped the exterior of the goggles to remove dust, I discovered the reason behind their anti-fog success: three large vents at the top, designed to prevent condensation. These vents, while effective in reducing fog, had no filters, allowing dust to accumulate inside.

The Drawbacks

This design flaw became evident when I was doing overhead work. Dust and debris easily entered through these vents, compromising my safety. The same issue arose when I used them for spray painting ceilings; the paint particles found their way inside the goggles.

Switching Gears

Consequently, I switched to DeWalt goggles. While they excel in keeping dust and paint out, I’m back to square one with the fogging issue.

Conclusion

In the world of DIY and home improvement, safety should always be a priority. My quest for the perfect pair of safety goggles continues, as each brand seems to have its pros and cons. I’d love to hear from you – what safety goggles do you use, and how do they hold up in different conditions?

Introduction

Working on DIY projects can often be fulfilling, but they’re not without risks, as I learned the hard way. One late evening, while finishing a wall, I had an unexpected and painful encounter with gypsum multi-finish plaster by getting plaster in my eye.

The Incident – Plaster in the Eye

As I was working, some plaster splattered onto my face and, more critically, into my eye. Initially, I tried to wash it out, underestimating the severity of the situation. Plaster, especially when mixed with water, can spread and stick, making it difficult to remove completely. This was a mistake I would soon regret.

With the eye hospital closed for the night, I turned to a plasterers’ forum for advice. Many suggested washing it out, which I had already attempted. By the next morning, my eye was swollen and painful, prompting a visit to the emergency eye department.

Medical Emergency

At the hospital, the doctors took a pH reading of both my eyes to assess the damage. Plaster in the eye is dangerous because it can cause chemical burns and potentially lead to severe damage or loss of vision. The treatment involved flushing my eye with an alkaline solution over several hours, interspersed with pH readings to monitor progress.

Aftermath and Recovery

After the extensive wash, the doctor found that the plaster had scratched my cornea. I was prescribed four different eye drops to manage the injury and prevent infection. Despite this, I developed conjunctivitis, which thankfully subsided after a few days. It took three more hospital visits before I was finally out of danger.

Key Advice

My experience taught me two crucial lessons. First, always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling materials like gypsum plaster. Second, in the event of an accident, don’t delay seeking professional medical help. Plaster can cause severe chemical burns to the eye, risking permanent damage or loss of sight. If you ever find yourself in a similar situation, go straight to the hospital without hesitation. Your vision is too precious to risk.

Bosch is a well-known brand in the world of power tools, and their Professional 3x Jigsaw Blade T 1013 AWP Precision for Soft Material is a popular choice among DIY enthusiasts and professionals alike. The blade is designed for precision cuts in soft materials like wood, laminates, and plastics. However, when it comes to using the blade on insulation boards, particularly 150mm and 90mm PIR insulation boards, it may not be the best option.

As someone who has used the Bosch Professional 3x Jigsaw Blade T 1013 AWP Precision for Soft Material on insulation boards, I have found that the blade can flex and not provide as straight a cut as one can perform with a hand saw. This can lead to uneven cuts, which can be frustrating and time-consuming to fix.

The concept behind the Bosch Professional 3x Jigsaw Blade T 1013 AWP Precision for Soft Material is good. The blade is designed to provide precision cuts and reduce splintering, which is particularly important when working with soft materials. The blade features precision-ground teeth with taper-ground body for precise cuts, as well as a pointed ground tooth design for clean cuts and reduced splintering.

However, when it comes to using the blade on insulation boards, particularly thicker boards like 150mm and 90mm PIR insulation boards, the blade may not be the best option. These boards can be more difficult to cut through, and the blade may flex or wander during the cut, leading to less precise cuts.

If you are working with insulation boards, particularly thicker boards like 150mm and 90mm PIR insulation boards, you may want to consider using a hand saw or a specialized blade designed for insulation board cutting. These blades are typically thicker and more rigid, which can help prevent flexing during the cut and lead to more precise cuts.

In conclusion, while the Bosch Professional 3x Jigsaw Blade T 1013 AWP Precision for Soft Material is a good option for precision cuts in soft materials like wood, laminates, and plastics, it may not be the best option for insulation boards, particularly thicker boards like 150mm and 90mm PIR insulation boards. When working with insulation boards, it may be worth investing in a specialized blade designed for insulation board cutting or using a hand saw for more precise cuts.

As a disappointed customer, I feel it is my responsibility to share my negative experience with the Antler QAB44LR Long Reach Blades Compatible with Dewalt Stanley Worx Oscillating Multitool Accessories from Amazon.

I had high hopes for these blades, as they promised a long reach, which I thought would make my woodworking tasks easier and more efficient. However, I quickly discovered that these blades were not up to the task.

The first issue I encountered was the material used to make the blades. It was so thin and flexible that it made it impossible to cut in a straight line. I tried to adjust my technique, but it was clear that the blades were simply not up to the task.

As a result, I ended up having to ditch these blades and switch to Dewalt brand blades. While these blades were more expensive, they were much more durable and allowed me to cut the wood in smaller sections without any issues.

Overall, I cannot recommend the Antler QAB44LR Long Reach Blades Compatible with Dewalt Stanley Worx Oscillating Multitool Accessories. While they may be cheaper than other options on the market, the poor quality of the blades makes them a waste of money in the long run. Save yourself the frustration and invest in higher quality blades that will get the job done right the first time.

These tools typically have a flat, triangular or round blade that oscillates at high speeds, and can be easily swapped out for different types of blades or attachments, depending on the specific task at hand.
The oscillating motion of the blade allows for precise control and maneuverability in tight spaces, making it a versatile tool for both DIY and professional use. Oscillating multitools can be used for a variety of applications, such as removing grout, cutting through drywall, sanding wood or metal, and scraping adhesive or paint.
One advantage of an oscillating multitool is its ability to make precise cuts in materials without damaging adjacent surfaces or materials. It can also be used in situations where other power tools may be too bulky or unwieldy.

If you’re planning to embark on a concrete mixing project, you’ll need a reliable container to mix and transport the concrete. The 43-Litre Garden Flex Tub is an excellent option for this task. I recently purchased one from Aldi and have been thoroughly impressed with its performance.

The first thing that stood out to me about the Garden Flex Tub is its material. Unlike hard plastic buckets that can crack or break under the pressure of mixing concrete with a drill, the Garden Flex Tub is made of a flexible, durable material that can withstand the rigors of mixing heavy materials. This flexibility also means that the tub is less likely to deform or warp over time, making it a more reliable long-term investment.

Another benefit of this Tub is its size. At 43 litres, it’s larger than many other mixing containers on the market. This means you can mix more concrete at once, reducing the number of batches you need to make and saving you time in the long run. The size also makes it easier to mix the concrete thoroughly, ensuring that it’s consistent and strong.

In addition to its durability and size, the Garden Flex Tub is also easy to clean. The smooth surface of the tub means that concrete doesn’t stick to it as easily as it would to a rougher surface, making clean-up a breeze. Plus, the flexible material means that you can simply bend the tub to remove any excess concrete, rather than having to scrape it out with a tool.

Overall, I would highly recommend the 43-Litre Garden Flex Tub for anyone looking for a reliable, durable container for mixing concrete. Its flexible material, large size, and easy clean-up make it a great investment for anyone who plans on doing concrete work regularly. And at its affordable price point, it’s a smart choice for DIY enthusiasts and professionals alike.

You can see us using the tub to mix self leveller and concrete slurry.

If you’re planning to lay down self-levelling compound on your floors, you’ll need to use a spiked roller to ensure that the compound is distributed evenly and adheres properly. In this post, we’ll take a closer look at what a spiked roller is and how it’s used in the laying of self-levelling compound.

What is a Spiked Roller?

A spiked roller is a specialized tool that’s used to spread self-levelling compound across a surface evenly. It has a cylinder shape with small, sharp spikes or teeth on its surface. These spikes or teeth help to create small pockets of air within the self-levelling compound, which allows it to flow out and fill in any gaps or uneven areas.

How is a Spiked Roller Used in the Laying of Self-Levelling Compound?

Before using a the roller, you’ll need to prepare the surface that you’ll be working on. This involves cleaning it thoroughly, removing any loose debris or dirt, and ensuring that it’s completely dry. You may also need to use a primer or other bonding agent to help the self-levelling compound adhere properly.

Once the surface is prepped, you can begin mixing the self-levelling compound according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Once it’s mixed, pour it onto the surface and use a trowel or similar tool to spread it around evenly.

Next, use the roller to go over the surface, rolling it in multiple directions to ensure that the self-levelling compound is distributed evenly and fills in any gaps or uneven areas. Be sure to apply firm, even pressure to the roller, but avoid pushing it too hard or you may create lines or marks in the compound.

Depending on the type of self-levelling compound you’re using, you may need to use the spiked roller multiple times during the curing process. This will help to ensure that the compound sets evenly and adheres properly to the surface.

Conclusion

A spiked roller is an essential tool for anyone who’s planning to lay down self-levelling compound. By using this specialized roller, you can ensure that the compound is distributed evenly, adheres properly, and fills in any gaps or uneven areas. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully, and take your time when using the roller to ensure that you get the best results possible.

The top of the stand has a mounting bracket that can be adjusted to fit the size and shape of the mitre saw, with clamps or other fasteners to hold the saw in place. Some stands also have extensions that can be pulled out on either side of the saw to support longer pieces of wood.
The advantages of using a mitre saw stand include increased stability and accuracy when making cuts, as well as improved safety.

There are many cheap breakers on the market. From feedback I have received from my youtube channel, many have similar characteristics to the cheap breaker from Mac Allister model number MSBR1700-A is a 16.2KG Hex Shank 230V breaking tool. This comes with a pointed and flat chisel and a carry case to get your job started. It is a cheap breaker, but can it cope with real jobs?

Specification of the Mac Allister cheap breaker

The MAC ALLISTER Breaker was sold in Screwfix and currently retails in B&Q and retails between £130 – £150 and that includes free home delivery if required. It is a model that also appears to be sold under different brand names in other stores.
This cheap breaker is heavy, weighing in at just over 16kg. It has a 1700 watt motor so is reasonably powerful. It has a fan on the motor which you hear kicking in when in use so it didn’t overheat for me. When in use on longer breaking jobs you can lock the trigger on.
This breaker is providing 50j of impact energy so is standard in its class. It uses a hex tool is 30mm system. The impact rate is 1600BPM. It has a 3 metre cord length. There is an anti vibration system and the vibration produced comes in at 22.04 m/s².

cheap breaker kit

Preparation for use

To load a chisel simply place it in the body and lock into place. Now plug into an RCD protected socket, and if using an extension make sure its fully unwound. There is no need to add oil. I bought some grease but the instructions do not cover whether to use this unlike other manufacturers. Before I started using this breaker I put on personal protective equipment. It is recommend to wear eye protection, gloves and steel toe cap boots. When working in close confines of potential loose masonry wear a hard hat. Ear protection is vital.

Using the cheap breaker

In this review I am breaking through a garage floor of 14cm deep in concrete. Whilst it takes several attempts, gradually breaking the concrete down in layers, it does easily break up this floor. I have to start near a tramline I cut in with an angle grinder and break from this point as it cracks the concrete. Having complete digging my trench of 2 metres in concrete I then took it outside and used it to dig a trench in earth mixed with bricks. On both breaking types the breaker gets stuck and is difficult to pull out, but that is more down to technique.

Value for money proposition

So is this cheap breaker value for money? Well compared to the competition its cheap. The carry case breaks but that is to be expected for the money paid.
My logic on the value for money was to compare it to hire costs. I would have spent £110 hiring a better machine for a weekend. This cost me around £150. However, I can sell this for at least £100 On ebay when I’m done so I’m quids in. Besides I found more jobs to use it for and ended up using it for digging a couple of trenches.

Cheap breaker hire cost

I would certainly recommend this cheap breaker and that comes from someone who often doesn’t like cheap tools!

On my youtube channel you will find videos of me using the breaker.
About the value sheepskin roller

The ProDec PRRE010 Value Sheepskin roller is sold as a durable, trade quality natural Merino wool. This wool is the world’s finest grade of sheepskin aiding superb loading, release, durability and washability. Does it stand up to this in real life?

The Value Sheepskin roller was ordered on Amazon prime and therefore came on a next day delivery ready for work. The Medium pile sheepskin roller was of good quality. The roller easily fitted onto the 1.75″ (44mm) cage and was ready for use.
About the sheepskin roller

The sheepskin roller has a 12mm medium pile. This is the most popular pile used with emulsion paints. Medium pile is suitable for smooth and semi-smooth surfaces. The surface types can be plaster, drywall and ceilings (including light to medium textured plasters such as artex) . This roller is suitable for emulsion colour changes. Colour changes can be both similar to the previous one and more substantial such as light to dark or vice-versa . It can also be used on semi-smooth masonry surfaces such as brick. It is ideal for water and solvent/oil-based emulsions (eg. matt, silk, eggshell) and masonry paint with minimal paint spatter.

Merino Wool Pile

Pro Dec uses Merino wool, which is prized in the textile industry for its softness and durability. Not all sheepskin rollers are made of this, so the price tag of this product reflects its quality. The strong fibres resist tearing, making the fabric naturally durable. This enables it to stand up to heavy duty use on masonry and other textured surfaces. As it’s a natural fibre it washes out readily, with the fibres drying back into shape. This roller can be used time and time again and giving the same high quality finish.

Absorption Rates and useage

Absorption rates were good, and had the product been easier to apply this roller would have made a superb job. However despite the instructions of the primer I applied requiring a sheepskin roller, the two were not compatible.

I used the roller in my FG35 Primer by RESITRIX®Product Review.
The price when purchased was £13.94 including VAT and delivery.
Here is the roller in use. The issues with coverage is due to the FG35 not the roller!
